Honitons Residential Care Home in East Devon.
Melbourne Wing
The new “Melbourne Wing” takes the current high standards of Adelaide Lodge even higher. It is clear that the Home is looking to the future and a host of eco-friendly improvements have been devised and implemented.
Residents will benefit from a newly installed under-floor heating system that will remove the need for unsightly and potentially hazardous radiators. The old boilers have been removed and recycled, and replaced by cost-effective, energy efficient new boilers. These will deliver exactly the heat required when it is required, thereby maximising efficiency and minimising running costs.
“Sun Pipes” provides natural light in the corridors. Sun pipes is a revolutionary new way to pipe natural daylight from the rooftop into the home – to brighten areas from dawn to dusk where daylight from windows cannot reach.
Eco-friendly improvements
The new extension also boasts innovative and pioneering rainwater harvesting system which has been devised and installed to save on ‘lost’ water and drainage whereby rainwater will be harvested into an underground storage tank where the water is filtered and then piped to flush the WC’s in the new Melbourne wing. During the reinstatement of the car park provision was made to harvest the rain from the “old” house down pipes to its own 7,500 litre underground storage tank under the car park where it is also filtered and plumbed to feed the new laundry. In the event of any dry spells the mains water would kick-in and would fill the storage tank. All these eco-friendly improvements are typical of the management’s drive to keep Adelaide Lodge at the forefront of standards in Care Homes.
